All pots shown have been fired in the anagama.

At right is an example of the melon skin effect, where the pot has received a good deposit of ash but because of insufficiently high temperature the ash has failed to melt properly and has lifted away from the clay surface in an irregular fashion. In this case Len has rubbed off the loose bits of ash, leaving a dry surface. The bright colours of the areas which received very little ash are encouraged by the lower temperature to which the pot has been fired.
