Oztrain Kiln: Chimney

In this image most of the first layer of bricks has been laid on a layer of sand. Low quality bricks have been used, without mortar. The base of the chimney has been built and the exit flues constructed. If necessary the exit flue  area can be reduced easily. The area shown is 126 square inches, which is just about the same as the  chimney cross sectional area. For most of the firing the damper  is adjusted to give an available cross sectional area of 80 square inches.

The chimney cross sectional area is 121.5 square inches. Narrowing from the base occurs below the damper level, as shown below.
