Sidestoking
ports are visible here, and flame observation ports can be seen
on top of the kiln. The insulation layer has collapsed slightly
in one place.
Damper
arrangement. The damper is manipulated with the thought in mind
that it should be opened a bit towards the end of the firing to
pull flames to the rear of the kiln.
Packed
pots visible from stokehole. Wood will be stoked directly onto
the pots which are on their sides. Any careless stoking could
easily dislodge the cones and the scallop shell held against the
side of a pot.
