Original exit flues of the Sturt anagama, photographed before the installation of a partition to form a sutema. The red line marks the approximate postion of the front of the partition.

The newly constructed partition, with some loose bricks waiting for removal. Furitani advocated having the exit flues at the sides of the chamber wider than the ones towards the centre. This would counteract the natural tendency of the flames to go up the centre.
