Steve Harrison

Although this kiln does not have a downdraft firebox Steve does advocate the use of a bourry box when natural ash effects are desired. He believes that ash is more likely to be sucked into the kiln chamber once it becomes airborne, as it must be in a downdraft firebox. Click on any image below to reach an enlargement |
Steve has built and fired more kilns than you could poke a stick at. At left is the kiln he was using when I visited him in July 2003. His kiln shed was not arranged for the convenience of photographers so this image is a rough combination of two other images. The fibre lined stainless steel stoking door shown at left and above is a clue to one Steve's other activities: manufacturing fibre kilns for gas firing. The fibre on the stoking door shown is kept in position with wired stainless steel tabs. |
