Wood stacked around the anagama chimney. Conditions are frequently wet in the rainforest, but usually sheltered from wind, so this sort of kiln shed is effective.

The simplicity of construction of this light weight roof is apparent in the image below.






During firings a piece of roofing iron (weighed down by slabs of wood in the photos) is removed and a metal tube 0.6m long and about 0.4m in diameter is added to the top of the chimney. The tube is visible at lower left in the image above and is made from an old oil drum. The final height of the chimney is about 3 metres. The kiln rises 0.8m along its 4.5m length.
